FAQS
Are BERG go-karts durable?
Durability is one of BERG’s key selling points. Here’s what they highlight:
BERG uses sustainable, high-quality, non-toxic materials and tracks the source of each component to ensure a long-lasting product.
Many models carry a Cradle to Cradle certification, reflecting their approach to sustainable design and longevity.
They provide spare parts for nearly every component except the frame, so if something wears out or is damaged (e.g. tires, chains, plastics), you can replace it rather than discard the whole kart.
The user manual explicitly states that with a bit of care and periodic maintenance, a BERG go-kart “will last for a very long time.” So yes — with proper care, you can expect a long, durable life from a BERG go-kart.
Which pedal go-kart is most suitable for my child?
Choosing the right go-kart involves matching your child’s age, height, and intended riding terrain. Here’s how BERG frames the guidance:
BERG offers models starting as young as 2 years old up through adults.
Each model includes a recommended age range and height/length indications to ensure ergonomic comfort and safe operation.
For example, their XL go-karts are suited for riders from 125 cm to 190 cm, while XXL frames extend up to about 210 cm.
Consider also the drive system (see below), terrain (e.g., pavement vs. grass), and accessories (passenger seats, trailers, etc.) when selecting a modelTip: If your child is taller or shorter than typical for their age, prioritize the height/length guide over age.

Highlights
The BFR system for intuitive riding and braking
The BERG Buddy is equipped with the unique BFR system. BFR stands for Brake, Freewheel and Reverse. With the BFR system, you can brake with the pedals, and can also reverse immediately after stopping.
Adjustable to your height
If you want to have years of fun playing with the BERG Buddy, you can adjust the seat. The seat can be adjusted in three different positions, so you can always reach the pedals.
A stable and safe grip on the road
The BERG Buddy has excellent stability thanks to its four wheels, and is also equipped with a swing axle. This allows the front wheels to move slightly up and down to cushion any unevenness in the road.
A comfortable and smooth ride
The BERG Buddy has pneumatic tires, for an extra-smooth ride. These tires have less rolling resistance for easier pedaling. This means you can go faster! You'll ride with extra comfort on the BERG Buddy.

My son has never really been interested in riding bikes but wants to keep up with friends. This has been something he has stayed interested in riding and it seems like he likes this a lot better! We were all blown away by the quality too. Looking forward to lots of years with this awesome ride!
Delivery arrived on the west coast in 3days. Easy assembly. Solid build. Took 3.5yr old son just a few rides to master the new drive system which is different than his previous Berg cart. The coaster brake system is great he really enjoys it. It has a brake and you can peddle to reverse. No more bruised ankles if a foot slips off the pedal. This model is a bit heavier than the entry level model so it’s great to have a brake system. Air tires are much softer ride than the foam ones. Miles of fun!
The quality is excellent and my 4yo grandson loves this thing. It is very cool. This one has the inflatable tires. The Buzzy that I got for the 2yo has the foam tires, but still very durable.
My 5 year old grandson loves his orange Berg Buddy Pedal Kart that I bought him for his birthday. It is so cool and fun to ride that I am getting one for myself so we can ride together!!
The kid loves it and it seems to work very well. It came mostly assembled and only needed a few parts bolted together. I think total assembly time was 10 minutes after getting all the parts unpacked. There were a few parts that struck me as having room for improvement, but overall I'm happy to give this 5 stars.
Steering Wheel bolt head didn't have enough clearance to be installed without carving out a little channel for it to fit into the plastic slot on the steering wheel. I then had to use a mallet to tap out the bolt after jamming it in to create the channel in the plastic.
The rider seat isn't held in place by anything. I'd have liked to see a cotter pin or something to keep the seat post down. The cart is meant for flat riding, so it's unlikely to ever bounce out. But as with anything meant for my young one I prefer everything to be positively retained to be on the safe side.
The last minor issue I've seen is that the front end is held in place with a single bolt and it allows the front to twist a fair amount. This might be intended to allow some flex when going over very uneven terrain. It made me wonder if I hadn't tightened the bolt sufficiently, but doesn't seem to be causing any problems.
One other thing that struck me as odd, coming from experience with larger carts and vehicles, is that there is only one driven wheel. I assume this is to prevent the need for a differential and to avoid the cornering issues of a solid axle to both wheels. So far it's not caused any issues at all, so I guess the designers know what they are doing.
These are all minor / non-issues, overall I am very happy with the quality for the price.
Bought a Berg Buddy for my four year old grandson. He absolutely loves it. It fits him great and I like the adjustable seat so it can grow with him. It is very well made and has a smooth ride. I highly recommend it, especially if you have a high energy kiddo.
Very well made, great to see toys with real ball bearings and not plastic moving parts that would be worn out quickly, easy to put together, we let our grand son help assemble and he loved it. The pedal mechanism is great, allows coasting without the pedal hitting their feet while learning to ride. Seat is adjustable for years of growing fun, my son said the exhaust looks real enough to be on a real tractor, this will last him for years, thanks for designing a great machine.
Bought tractor pedal cart for my 5 year old grandson. He loves it. The cart is very well built and durable! He wanted tractor that he could put a trailer hitch on. This is perfect!
His cart gets lots of attention at the park.
Shipping was very fast!
Thank you for making a well made product for hard playing kids!!!
My 4 year old loves his BERG Buddy! It’s easy for him to maneuver and he can zoom around off road or the driveway/roads. I appreciate that it’s super sturdy, safe, was incredibly easy to put together and the seat is easily adjustable so my 7 year old can also take it for a spin. Great product!
Opened it up on Christmas Eve to put together and they sent me the wrong color! How do you mix up yellow with pink and teal! Pretty disappointing. Hopefully my son likes pink from Santa!
Store owner replied:
Hey Dokken! Thanks for reaching out regarding your order. We sincerely apologize for the mix up. We've shipped a replacement BERG Buddy Cross, so now he can choose his favorite!
The build quality and design are really outstanding! Easy to assemble and I expect it to last several years. My 4y.o. son was as excited as me about this incredible kart :)
Very well made peddle cart, minimal assembly needed, all parts went together well & the carts are very heavy, brightly painted, nice size. This is a Christmas gift so I’m hoping the peddle as good as they look. The carts are well worth the price .
My 3 year old loved it at first but I was given a faulty chain assembly (bad O ring). So the chain come off the first time he rode it. After some back and forth with customer service, they finally sent me a new assembly. Sadly he is now afraid to ride it.
What is the difference between EVA and pneumatic tires?
EVA tires
These are solid, foam-type “whisper” tires that cannot puncture and require very little maintenance.
Because they are solid, they tend to provide less ride comfort and grip compared to pneumatic tires.
You’ll typically find EVA tires on BERG’s smaller go-karts or those designed for younger children.
Pneumatic tires
These are air-filled, so they give better shock absorption, ride comfort, and grip, especially on uneven surfaces.
The downside: they can puncture and require occasional air pressure checks. Bergtoys
BERG uses pneumatic tires for its larger go-karts (XL, XXL) to give more comfort during longer or rougher rides.
Bottom line / when to choose which
If you want low maintenance and worry-free tires for smooth surfaces, EVA is a strong option.
If your child will ride over grass, gravel or uneven terrain and you want better comfort and grip, pneumatic is better.
Always check the specific model’s product page to see which tire type it uses

How should I maintain my go-kart?
Check tire condition (for pneumatic, also air pressure).
Tighten any loose screws or bolts.
Inspect the steering for smooth operation; lubricate bearings if needed (silicone spray is often suggested).
Test the brake / emergency stop function; make sure brakes operate cleanly.
Clean the kart (frame, plastic parts) to avoid dirt buildup and corrosion.
Regular maintenance schedule (from owner manual)
Frame: Clean regularly and check for damage or rust.
Wheels/tires: Check for wear, damage, and pressure (for pneumatic models) as per specs (e.g., 1–1.5 bar). Y
Steering: Ensure steering bolts/nuts are tight and bearings are well-lubricated.
Drive chain / mechanism: lubricate chain, inspect for wear, and ensure it is correctly tensioned.
Plastic parts, seats, accessories: Inspect for damage, clean, and tighten or replace as needed.
When major repairs needed
BERG offers spare parts (except frames) so that many repairs or replacements (flat tires, broken chains, lost parts) can be done without discarding the entire unit.
For significant structural repairs, contact an authorized dealer. Keeping current with checks and maintenance ensures that your go-kart remains safe and fun for years.
Are BERG go-karts certified and safe?
Yes — safety and certification are core parts of BERG’s design process:
All BERG go-karts undergo extensive internal testing (materials, ergonomics, mechanical safety) during development.
External testing agencies then verify the results before models are launched.
Every model carries the CE mark, and many of the smaller models also carry TÜV certification.
The materials used are tested to be free from toxic chemicals and meet BERG’s internal quality standards.
Additional safety features:
Many models include stable four-wheel designs and swing axles to keep traction and balance even in corners.
For child models, simpler drive systems (like Direct Drive) help ensure predictable, easy braking.
Manuals often specify that children under a certain age (e.g. under 12) should be supervised.
In short: yes, BERG go-karts are certified, tested, and designed with safety in mind.

How does the direct drive work?
The Direct Drive is one of BERG’s drive systems, mainly intended for younger or simpler models. Here’s how it works:
In Direct Drive, the pedals are directly linked via a chain to the rear axle, so the moment the kart moves, the pedals move as well.
Because of this direct linkage, pedaling is straightforward, and braking can be done by simply stopping the pedal motion (i.e. holding pedals still).
It’s especially useful for young riders who are still learning coordination, because there’s no freewheeling — the connection is immediate and intuitive.
Note: BERG also offers their BFR drive system (Brake / Freewheel / Reverse), which is more advanced — it lets users pedal, brake via back-pedaling, and even pedal in reverse.
When to choose Direct Drive:
For little kids or models where simplicity is priority.
When you don’t need reverse or freewheel operation (i.e. pedaling doesn’t come off when you stop).
